Montana has more cows living in it than people. We have 7 Indian Reservations, 8 National Parks and over 100 ghost towns. We get blizzards, hail storms, flash floods, tornados and ferocious wildfires. We have 1 room school houses and 13 four year colleges and universities. We have cowboys, rodeos, roping, cutting, barrel racing and reining competitions. Grizzly bears, wolves, elk and bison pop up in the most unexpected places. We are home to Hollywood actors, artists, writers, ski and trout bums. We have one of the largest ski resorts in North America.

There is more. I’ll bet it doesn’t sound much like where you are. However, Montana is mythologized in our culture and believe me, the TV show Yellowstone is just a stylized myth.

We have lived and worked here for 28 years and have had numerous adventures with quite the cast of characters.

Sit down with a cup of coffee for a few minutes, relax and let me take you with us on one of those adventures each week. I guarantee it will beat the daylights out of doom scrolling through social media.

Oh, and sometimes I’ll post short stories or my thoughts about life both here in Montana and elsewhere.

One last thing. If you decide to come and visit Montana we are a great resource for you. For instance, you cannot see everything Yellowstone Park has to offer in a day or two. Its immense. You also don’t want to go there first thing in the spring. Trust me.

See? I know stuff and would be happy to tell you anything you want to know for free!

So, that’s why you should subscribe to The Anvil’s Ring.

I was a professional Farrier for over thirty years and have always told stories to clients, client's children and even their horses if no one else was around. Now I write them down.
